Prudence Mak麥雅端 (Chocolate Rain)
Chocolate Rain, founded in 2000, is a distinctive local design brand inspired by childhood dreams and whimsical adventures in wonderland. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted, combining mixed media and unique artistic elements to create truly one-of-a-kind art pieces.
Prudence has devoted herself to art practice for more than 20 years. In recent years, she has immersed herself in the study of ink art and learned from various masters to integrate brush and ink into her imagined world.
In her latest series, she brings together traditional Chinese ink painting and Western Pop Art for the first time. With the use of delicate brushwork and contemporary colors, she places her signature character “Fatina” into the realm of ink, revealing a poetic connection between curiosity, dreams and nature, and inviting viewers to drift freely between reality and fantasy.

《 章魚・海女 》 Octopus · Ariel
水墨京和紙 Ink on Jinghe Paper
57 × 57 cm each
Echoing Edo-period shunga like Katsushika Hokusai' s "The Octopus and the Ama" this piece uses exaggerated fantasy to portray adult themes. The octopus embodies a mysterious natural force, and its interplay with the ama (female) weaves desire and nature into one. Once circulated privately as woodblock prints, these vibrant, surreal compositions not only captivate the eye but also challenge taboos to examine human nature and unfettered curiosity. While modern viewers may find them startling or perplexing, they reveal a culture' s limitless imagination of desire, the unknown, and our connection to the natural world.
